Social innovations are new social practices that aim to meet social needs in a better way than the existing solutions, resulting from – for example – working conditions, education, community development or health. This definition is the difference from other innovative approaches to problem solving. Social Innovation require a different approach from other innovations because they look to solve problems that routine innovation failed to solve. The startup where I work in realizing culinary skills were lacking in our locality did some research to figure out what the problem was. We found out that lots of people didn’t know culinary education was real education. Most saw culinary education as minor education. In bridging the gap, we ran some campaigns and changed the mindset.
This campaign to educate is a social Innovation in that we worked to change the narrative. Our organizational innovation on the other hand provides quality culinary training having realized this knowledge gap.
